Students drew with oil pastels and then gently painted a wash of watercolor paint across the top of their drawing. Students learned that the oil pastel repels the watercolor paint.
Some students sprinkled a little table salt on top of their damp watercolor paint. This creates a delicate flower-like spot. Each crystal of salt chases away the pigment to make a lighter area beneath it which in turn creates an interesting texture.
